Some may say who is John Issacs??????? To most who grew up in The Bronx within the last 40 years who attended the Madison Square Boys and Girls Club after school know him as Mr. Issacs who runs The Club.
Most of us may not know that Mr. Issacs was a professional basketball player who played with the Harlem Renaissance. Can you imagine how tough it must have been to be a black athlete back in the 1930's. We can say that he helped pave the way for a african american athletes today. I am pretty sure he took a lot so we wouldn't have to.
I know him personally, but to look at him you would not think that he is in his 90's.
From us here at The GHOODLIFE, we would like to thank Mr. Issacs for providing a place for us to have fun, and stay out of trouble. There were several positive influences that made sure we did the right thing like Sandy, Pete "Young Man" Cepeda, Jeff, Ruben, Big Randy!
If you lived in the Crotona Park East Section of the Bronx, you know where you were going right after school to play ball, shoot pool, swim and get yelled at for running in the halls..LOL "The Club".
Weather you were an Explorer, Junior, Intermediate, or Senior you remember Mr. Issacs.
